The first “exclusive” gym for disabled people in Shenzhen was opened in Minzhi Subdistrict, Longhua District recently, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

The gym, located in the district’s employment and entrepreneurship base for the disabled, has various fitness equipment and can provide personalized fitness plans for the disabled. It is open seven days a week and is free of charge to the group.

“It’s too inconvenient for us disabled people to go to regular gyms. Now, we can come here for training any time. It’s really great,” said a man surnamed Li, who came to the gym to work out in his spare time.

According to a manager of the gym, fitness plans vary for each member. For example, one plan can help members control their limbs if they have difficulties in coordinated movements.

It is reported that the gym is one of Minzhi Subdistrict’s innovative projects initiated specifically for the disabled, which enables professional fitness instructors to popularize several fitness programs tailored for the group.

At present, the district is advancing the construction of a second fitness gym for disabled people.

In another development, Shenzhen Disabled Persons Federation has helped 50 disabled people in the city fulfill their wishes since the launch of a charity event in April this year.

A beneficiary identified as Xiaoai in Futian District received a pair of new rackets. She expressed her gratitude in a message to those who helped fulfill her wish after receiving the gift.

Other such fulfilled wishes included a long-awaited BYD car model, a trip to the zoo with parents and a family photography session.

According to the federation, the event has entered its second round for collecting small wishes. Disabled people in the city can learn about the event on the federation’s WeChat account “sz_cjr” (深圳残疾人) and fill in their wishes.
