The “2024 Bilingual Speech Competition for Chinese and Expat Residents” starts! The competition is now open for registration! Welcome residents from both China and abroad to sign up!
To create a favorable environment for international communication, build a platform for friendly exchanges between Chinese and expat residents, and showcase their language and cultural styles, the Foreign Affairs Bureau of Shenzhen Longhua District will host the “2024 Bilingual Speech Competition for Chinese and Expat Residents”.
Competition Format
Competitors will be divided into two groups: Chinese residents and expat residents. The former shall speak English, the latter Chinese.
The competition will take place in two stages:Preliminary and Final.
Preliminary Registration: Longhua, an opportunity
(Competitors are free to decide on a speech topic relevant to the theme)
Participants: Chinese and expat citizens above 18 who work, study and live in Shenzhen
Registration Time: 10:00 AM, July 8 -- 11:59 PM, September 8
Registration Method:
Please scan the following QR code to fill in the form with information of registration and submit the finished speech draft and a speech video to the following address: [email protected]. The file should be named “Name+Nationality+Speech Title+ 2024 Bilingual Speech Competition for Chinese and Expat Residents Application Form” (please note that the personal information in the email should be consistent with that in the application form).
Work Requirements:
1. Competitors are free to decide on a speech topic relevant to the theme. Speech contents shall center on competitors’ work and life experience in Shenzhen. Speech shall be to the point, well-structured, logically smooth, clearly defined in gist, and contain personal views and stances.
2. The length of the speech video shall be limited to 3 minutes. At least a bust shot is required in the video. Competitors shall speak relatively fluently. The video shall offer high definition and clear voice.
3. Chinese competitors shall use English, expat competitors Chinese.
4. The host fully respects and reserves the authorship of competitors; registering for the competition automatically grants the organizer the non-commercial promotional rights to the submitted works.
Selection Procedure:
1. We will conduct a preliminary review within 5 working days after competitors submit speech videos. Those who pass the preliminary review will proceed into the preliminary. Competitors whose video entries meet the requirements and are selected into the preliminary will receive a participation certificate and a commemorative badge from the event.
2. We will organize professional judges to grade the videos selected into the preliminary. According to the scores, the top 10 Chinese residents and 10 expat residents will reach the final. The list of the preliminary winners and the finalists will be announced through the official WeChat account.
Pre-final Training
Training Time: Early October
Training Format: A public-speaking professional will be invited to provide pre-final training for the finalists, assisting them in preparing for the final. The training contents will primarily include public speaking skills, speech contents, theme interpretation, stage performance and alike.
Final
Final Time: Late October (until further notice)
Competition Section:
The final competition consists of two parts: themed speech and impromptu speech. After the speeches, the judges will comment and ask questions to the competitors, and score on the spot to announce the results of the competition.
- Themed speech: competitors should deliver a three-minute speech themed “Longhua, an opportunity”
- Impromptu speech: after drawing a topic, competitors will have thirty-second preparation and deliver a one-minute speech on the topic.
Scoring Criteria: The final scores and rankings are calculated based on a 60% weighting for the 3-minute themed speech in the first round and a 40% weighting for the 1-minute impromptu speech in the second round.
